Tanushree drops sex bomb image

Three years and nine films later, Tanushree Dutta has moved on. She no longer worries about the kind of perception audience has about her and the variety of roles they want her to be seen in. Instead she wants to focus on different kind of projects that she can lay her hands on and wear different personalities for each of her roles.

"Just like in life you can’t have the same mood everyday, the same holds good in your professional career as well. You can’t be trapped in the image of a sex bomb forever or shy away from doing different kind of films. I can’t be the same girl from morning till night and the same holds good for my films too which should be boasting of different flavours," philosophizes Tanushree.

Stating that she can’t be playing monotone characters for life, Tanushree declares that she has grown in life. "I am not a kid anymore to be affected by talks around me. Anything that is extreme, whether overtly negative or highly positive, ceases to disturb the way I look at life or my work. I know of the people who love me and the supporters that I have. I don’t have a point to prove to anyone out there."

Her latest release Saas Bahu Aur Sensex saw her in a different avatar altogether. From the bombshell image that she carries, suddenly she appeared as a girl next door.

"Well, it may be a little disappointing for few but again as I said earlier, those who love me would understand this. For others, well I can only be sorry for them but please, don’t expect me to be the same all the time," smiles Tanushree who would also be seen in a children’s adventure film Rama - The Saviour soon.

"That’s one film I am excited about since I have learnt martial arts for the film (Rama - The Saviour ). The film boasts of stunts on the lines of Lara Croft played by Angeline Jolie in The Tomb Raider series and has state-of-the-art special effects and animation. It was fun shooting for the film which has been shot in the jungles of Thailand," signs off Tanushree.

Vidya Balan on a joyride

Vishal Bharadwaj is very strict about his character portrayals in the films produced by him. The director-producer sees to it that the actor actually learns the skills in reality and not fake it on screen.

If Vishal made Saif Ali Khan learn the UP dialect including the expletives in Omkara the director has made Vidya Balan take driving lessons for Ishqiya. "Vidya was a complete phobic when it came to driving. She has acute road phobia. She was petrified at the thought of driving. The very thought of driving a car would send shivers down her spine. But not anymore! And it is all thanks to Vishal Bharadwaj. Driving a car was something that is completely alien to her. But Vishal saw to it that she mastered the art and now is pretty comfortable manoeuvring her car on the road."

Sushmita Sen scouting for good scripts and scriptwriters

"We need to look beyond our immediate interests," said Sushmita."And I don’t mean just at Tantra Productions, but the entertainment industry on the whole. As far as I can see, there’s no shortage of talent in our country. But what we need are proper platforms for that talent."There’re no accessible or even legitimate channels and outlets for talent to knock and enter Bollywood, let alone for talent to be nurtured," said Sushmita, who was last seen in "Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag".

This is where Sushmita’s production company comes in."We’re now into discovering and promoting new screenplay-writing talent. Anyone who has a script in any language from any part of our country or outside can get in touch with Tantra Productions, submit their script with the assurance that the manuscripts won’t languish in a corner to be finally thrown into a trash can, as they often are in our industry," Sushmita told IANS.

The screenplay scouting is specially stimulating to Sushmita’s sensibilities.I know there’re super-talented writers across the country in the regional languages who don’t know where to go in Bollywood. Well, here we are!"Sushmita has employed the best minds in the business that will gradually create a bank of scripts for not only Tantra Productions but also the film industry at large.

Does this mean "Rani Laxmibai" is no more her primary interest?"It will be my burning ambition until it gets made and afterwards. But I also have to think of the larger picture. Though my cinematic world currently revolves around ’Rani Laxmibai’, my production house needs to keep growing, working towards creating a world beyond just one film. And for that we need to build a pyramid of talent and projects. This process has now begun parallel to my dream project. You could say, ’Rani Laxmibai’ is my dream. The other projects are my reality check."

Two films with directors who have worked with Sushmita are now being put together for Tantra."And my ’Dulha Mil Gaya’ director Mudassar Aziz, who’s a little genius, is definitely directing one of them."After giving it a thought Sushmita said: "Actually it would have made more practical sense to first put together the smaller projects, or shall I say the less large projects, and then move into ’Rani Laxmibai’ as we would grow more experienced as a production house. But now that we’re in it, there’s no looking back."

Currently the actress is busy judging dance reality show "Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena" on Colors channel.

Karisma's return isn't a comeback

She has been away from the limelight for a while but Karisma Kapoor, refuses to dub her return as a judge on Nach Baliye 4 as a ‘comeback’. “I don’t want to call it my comeback. When Julia Roberts does a film after a long period, is it called a comeback? If not, then why in my case?” she asks.

But why a dance show? “I’ve always loved dancing. People loved me in dance numbers too. I had free time on my hands. So I gave it a nod. Till now people used to judge me but now I’ll be on the judge’s seat,” she laughs. Talking about the small screen, the actor did the show Karishma- A Miracle of Destiny in the past. Does she regret doing the show considering that it didn’t create waves? “Absolutely not! I grew as an actress and learnt a new medium. The show was not axed like a lot of other shows. It completed its time period. My performance was appreciated.”

Karisma, who has done almost 60 films, has no regrets even about those films that didn’t do well. “I gave my heart and soul to all. I am proud of all of my films.”

Contrary to rumours Karisma maintains that she has not signed any film. “I am looking for a script that would excite me.” Would she do only heroine- oriented films? “I don’t think so. I am game for any role that will make me feel like returning on the sets,” she says.

Last year Madhuri Dixit’s hugely publicised Aaja Nachle sank. What’s Karisma’s take on ‘comeback stars’ failing at the ticket counters? “If a film fails, it does not necessarily mean that the actor has failed. One person can’t be held responsible for a film’s debacle,” she asserts.

About enjoying the pause after marriage she says, “I have worked long enough. It was a well-deserved break. I’m happy to have dedicated my time to my daughter (Samaira).”When asked about how motherhood has changed her as a person, she says, “It’s the most beautiful feeling. I’ve become more responsible in my thought and actions,” she beams.

How does Samaira react when she spots her on screen? “At first, it was a little weird for her because she’s used to seeing her masi Kareena (Kapoor) on screen. Gradually, she has realised that her mother also is an actress,” she quips.

Aishwarya Rai shares about her hubby Abhishek

Aishwarya Rai insists that she identifies with hubby Abhishek Bachchan a lot and also shares a special bond with him.

She says, “I admire him (Abhishek) for his approach to work. He understands cinema so well that he is not afraid of taking risks. He stands by his family, friends all the time and because of this I identify a lot with him.”

She adds, “I know him for a very long time now. Together we have grown from actors to colleagues to friends and now we share a very special bond. It is definitely a nice feeling.”

Priyanka's Fashion in trouble

Madhur Bhandarkar is a worried man. The post-production of Fashion is not yet complete. First, actress Priyanka Chopra had a very bad throat because of which she had to cancel the dubbing of of the film and now the film industry’s workers’ strike has put further pressure the movie.

Says Madhur, "Our release is on October 29, that’s Wednesday, so we got a long Diwali weekend for our film. There’s no way we could cancel. However, the workers’ strike brought everything to a grinding halt."

Madhur feels films on release should have been exempted from the strike. "Films like Fashion, EMI and Golmaal Returns, which are all releasing during Diwali, have huge stakes. We can’t afford to fall back. So maybe the strike should not be applicable to films on release. However, people like Mahesh Bhatt and Ashok Pundit worked hard at a solution to the strike.

The situation does seem worrying for Madhur Bhandarkar. Priyanka’s bad throat started with all the screaming she did for Vishal Bhardwaj’s Kaminey. Says Madhur, "Priyanka did dub a bit on Thursday after her voice improved. But now she can’t until the strike is over. I’m ready to do the dubbing with all the artistes in different studios to save time. But the strike has to be over."

Apparently, Priyanka is pitching her naturalistic performance in Fashion as a Chandigarh girl aspiring to be a super-model at a National award. "I wouldn’t like to comment on that yet. That’s a decision I’ll leave to the jury. But Priyanka has connected with emotions in Fashion that she has never shown on screen before. And she’s a perfectionist," added Madhur.

Shahrukh Khan bocoming a good boy

While the debate continues amongst the smokers and now-smokers relating to the ban on smoking put forward by Union Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss, actor Shahrukh Khan said he would try his level best to quit smoking.

King Khan has welcomed this ban to make India a smoke free country, "It is a good step to make sure that the country is smoke free. Better step would be to ban cigarettes, make them illegal and hang any one who is smoking. We cannot do that as we are a democratic country." The superstar further hopes that the smokers take this ban seriously, "I hope everyone call upon their good self to do it. I myself would try my best."
